cgR – Episode #011 – Oscar Predictions

“…Avatar…it’s gonna be Avatar…”

We got a big episode here. It had to be split in two (and because I’m really nice I didn’t make you wait a week in-between). :)

The Oscars are right around the corner. And I wanted to get our predictions before it actually happens. I actually wanted to get our predictions in the last episode that we recorded (that’s the next one to be released) but I forgot and ran out of time.

We talk about the disgraceful CEO that ran off with the IP of his company that is going bust (Link) and then we move onto the CEO of Activision and how he wants his employees to feel like crap (Link). So happy stories this time ’round. But we move onto the main topic of the show.

Which to be honest is too much to summarize and when the Oscars come out and we do another show i will be sure to list our predictions. Really just listen to it, to know what we said.

More shows to come.

Until then… Enjoy

This episode is rated: Rated CG-13

[...] they’re bound to go beyond the Oscars.  And beyond we went, with enough content to make two podcasts for the “Oscar Prediction Plus So Much More” [...]

ILM singapore does animation – so for example the StarWars Cartoon series. It is not a spill operation. Nor is it just to reduce salaries at ILM – which is one of the few union shops in the business.
R&H India works as an extension of the LA office – hence the team in India are valid and seamless team members of the LA operation. SPI has offices outside LA but in the USA which is interesting.
The unpaid workers were at Meteor working on Journey To The Center Of The Earth Movie 3Din Canada – in Montreal.

Best picture is the award for the Producer – as the Director wins for best Director. There is no best Producer category. The reality is that if the film was ‘produced’ in part by the director – they would get joint producer credit. Look at District 9 – the producers role was key in getting that made, but Jackson in no way directed. (BTW weta was not the main effects house on District 9 – Image Engine, The Embassy Visual Effects, Zoic Studios and Goldtooth Creative also all did a lot of shots – Weta did the ship but not the character work)

Also thanks for the shout out on our visual effects podcast – I assume it was our vfxshow- as I think you quoted me :-)

    :-)
    thanks for the podcast

    Mike

    PS – I disagree respectfully – UP is a masterpiece :-)

Thanks for the podcast, it has lit a fire under me and reawakened my interest in CGI. Part 2 is still not up on Itunes.
