cgR – Episode #002 – “Frankenstein”

“……i guess i gotta get used to people wanting and asking for stuff now that ive done this …. “

Wow. I cannot begin to describe out difficult this episode was to put together. The main reason, preparation…. we didn’t do any. I learnt something very important. If we don’t have the time to do proper research and look into every aspect of the stories we talk about, then we shouldn’t bother recording the show.

This show will be like no other we record. It deals with multiple segments and not by choice. Why?

Well we begin the show with a apology in advance, followed by some discussion about the initial responses to the first show. Then we detour. Since there was something that we forgot to talk about and only realized until after the show. I could go on and describe every segment but suffice it to say the result is a not-so-charming Frankenstein creation.

But we touch on Killer Bean, Lightwave Core and Wings 3D.

Hopefully i might have salvaged the best audio and cut it together in way that is easy to listen to, but only you can be the judge of that. Apart from that, the only thing worth noting is this episode is brought to you in glorious stereo (although i think it doesn’t make that much of a difference). Hope you enjoy it. I can tell ya i didn’t enjoy editing it. :)

This episode is rated: Rated CG-13

No notes for this episode, because most of them of on the right side of the page and the others are very easy to find. Ie Killer Bean Forever.

A couple things on Wings and Erlang:
    1) Wings does look like it’s from ’82. However, I think it’s a pretty cool modeler. I find it easier to work with compared to XSI or Blender etc because it focuses on modeling only.

    2) Erlang was originally created for handling large scale, concurrent telephony programs. It almost doesn’t seem like the right tool for the job to create a 3d modeler. Although Erlang is great for certain problems, it seems like it’s a medium sized road block to scaling the development team of Wings. There isn’t as much Erlang expertise out there compared to C or C++.

Anyways, the podcast has been great so far, and I like the format/lack of format quite a bit.

    Cheers -

haha, rehashing theme songs.. I remember that one!
And don’t use bleeps ever, the are annoying as hell.

Anyways, I think it’s about time you have guests rather than just having the two hosts, the problem being is that your point of view is going to be entertaining only for so long as people tune in.

I think having a show that perhaps has a ‘monologue’, news segment and then a guest for injecting another POV would be more entertaining for the long run.

    Cheers.

    Dave:

Hey there Dave. Really interesting points. I will mention it in the next show.

    Thanks for letting us know.

    Jason:

    Hey oh Jase.

Hehe, how could i know use that song. It’s probably the best intro music i know. Now that you have said that, im already thinking of the next show’s theme. :)

About the guests, well right now i am just starting to talk to various people. But nothing is concrete at the moment.
But i don’t want the show to be reliant on its guests.

What i am striving for is the show to be good just with us. Because lining up guests and making sure they have the right content and audio capabilities is a long process and it slows the whole process down.

What I know now is the show in terms of audio quality is good right now, and it took a long time to get it to where it is.

So when it comes to guests/interviews we will have them but it wont be a regular occurrence for now.

Thanks again guys for commenting and for listening.

Don’t forget some Artic Monkeys, or Cage the Elephant, Psilodump ;)

I totally get the idea of being reliant on the 2 main hosts. Regarding, m4a, everyone can play it, and another advantage to m4a is chapter markers which would go a long way to help with listening to the show as well. Are you going to syndicate on iTunes podcast?

The principal Wings3D problem is the language it is made on, Erlang , is a language used for telecommunication and not 3d apps or games, the wings3D original makers Bjorn and Dan are also one of the inventors of the language. The lack of the developers is because of the lack of Erlang coders.
